Originally created in 1976, the Akari 5X remains one of the most recognizable table lamps in the AKARI collection. Isamu Noguchi's Akari light sculptures are widely regarded as icons of modern design throughout the 20th century. These paper lanterns, designed by Noguchi in 1952 and painstakingly handcrafted for over half a century by the original manufacturer in Gifu, Japan, perfectly blend traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modernist elements. The lamps are crafted using washi paper attached to bamboo wire ribbing, which is then supported by a delicate metal frame.
